A delightful twist on traditional Halloween treats, these candy apple ghosts are easy to make and perfect for family fun.

Ingredients

  • 8 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or Fuji recommended)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • White candy melts or white chocolate (enough to coat the apples)
  • Mini chocolate chips or edible eyes (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples: Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Insert a stick into the top of each apple for easy dipping.
  2. Make the candy coating: In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring.
  3. Check for readiness: Let the mixture boil until it reaches a temperature of 300°F (hard crack stage). This usually takes about 10-15 minutes.
  4. Add flavor: Remove the pot from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Allow the candy to cool slightly until it thickens.
  5. Dip the apples: Quickly dip each apple into the candy coating, swirling to coat evenly. Allow excess candy to drip off.
  6. Set the coating: Place the coated apples on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them cool completely.
  7. Melt the chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white candy melts or chocolate in short intervals of 30 seconds, stirring in between until smooth.
  8. Coat with white chocolate: Once the apples are cool, drizzle the melted chocolate over each apple or dip them again for a fuller ghostly cover.
  9. Add faces: While the chocolate is still wet, use mini chocolate chips or edible eyes to create ghost faces.
  10. Let them set: Allow the chocolate to harden completely before serving or storing.

Notes

Work quickly when dipping the apples. Use a candy thermometer for accurate candy consistency. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
