A whimsical cat-shaped cake perfect for Halloween celebrations, with customizable flavors and decorations.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3-4 tablespoons milk
  • Black food coloring
  • Candy eyes and chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder (if using), baking powder, and salt until combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients.
  4. Stir until just combined, avoiding overmixing to keep the cake light and fluffy.
  5. Divide the batter equally between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. Beat the softened butter until creamy, gradually add the powdered sugar, then mix in milk until reaching your desired frosting consistency.
  8. Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate, spread a layer of frosting on top, and then place the second cake on top.
  9. Frost the entire cake with the black tinted frosting, smoothing it out carefully.
  10. Using candy eyes and chocolate chips, create a cat face on the top of the cake, using additional frosting for whiskers or a nose as desired.

Notes

Ensure cakes are completely cooled before frosting to prevent melting.
