A simple and customizable recipe for making perfect homemade pizza dough for family dinners or gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it bubbles up and foams.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt until well combined.
  3. Combine mixtures: Make a well in the center of the flour and pour in the yeast mixture along with olive oil. Use a wooden spoon or your hands to combine until a loose dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. First rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven: About 30 minutes before baking, preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) with a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat up.
  7. Shape the dough: Punch down the risen dough, divide it into two portions, and roll each into the desired shape and thickness.
  8. Add toppings: Place the shaped dough onto parchment paper, adding sauce, cheese, and your favorite toppings.
  9. Bake the pizza: Transfer the pizza to the preheated stone or baking sheet and bake for about 12-15 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
  10. Serve: Remove from the oven, let cool a couple of minutes, slice, and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, use warm water to activate the yeast and don’t rush the rising time.
